Private Transfer to Mauthausen from Vienna

(12 Reviews)
Duration:   08h 00 min

Overview

Take advantage of your stay in Vienna and visit the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial near Linz in Upper Austria. Between 1938 and 1945 about 200.000 people from all over Europe were imprisoned there. About half of them lost their lives.

Depart from your hotel in Vienna at your preferred time in a private limousine or minivan. Our friendly english-speaking driver will drive you to the Memorial in safety and comfort. Heading west from Vienna you drive across Lower Austria with the vast Viennese Woods and the Melk Abbey as the highlights. Before arriving at Linz you cross the Danube and reach Mauthausen. The transfer time to the Mauthausen Memorial from Vienna is about two hours each way.

The memorial was redesigned in 2010 and the new museum opened its doors only in spring of 2013. With audio-guides in English visit the preserved historic premises, the „Wiener-Graben“ quarry with the „stairs of death“ as well as 20 national monuments and the newly re-opened Visitor Center (admission is not included).

If you book ahead we can arrange a private guided tour of the camp with one of the Memorial's own guides (not included).

After the visit to the memorial your driver will take you to Vienna and back to your hotel.

Great experience
The tour consists of a round trip Mercedes bus ride to the concentration camp. There were only 6 in our group. The tour Includes an audio guided tour of the camp which is set up by the driver. Markus was very good in coordinating everything for us. We didn’t stop for lunch on the way back so if you get hungry, make sure you bring a snack. However, there is a bistro on-site. The tour probably isn’t recommended for children. Even young teenagers who don’t appreciate or have patience. To really get a fully experience it takes a lot of reading and listening to the audio guide. This isn’t like other museums you can just walk through and get the full picture. You must listen and read to fully understand. All in all it is great! Such a dark time in history.

Great information, clean vehicle, awesome guide
Took a private tour (since we're a group of 7) from Vienna to the camp. Drive was smooth, car was VERY comfortable and clean for 7 of us - space for an 8th person up front if needed, got to watch a movie for half the drive also of some background / documentary on the camp which was a great precursor of information. Driver was also very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. Gave us some history on the areas we passed and answered ALL of our questions that we kept bombarding the poor guy with - but it was great to have all the things we were thinking of answered. Also since it was private we were able to do everything at our own pace and make some minor tweaks as needed to have it accommodate our group.

Mauthausen Tour with Sylvia
Our tour with Sylvia was a great experience. She was a great tour guide and the documentary was very informative. The van was super comfortable and Sylvia was very knowledgeable and gave us great little facts about the different monuments and sights that we were passing on the ride to/back the memorial. Would highly recommend (and I never write reviews so that’s saying something)
